Historic Lighthouse Suspends Tors--Tours of The Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse, a popular attraction off Cape Henlopen and near Lewes, Delaware, has been closed following a report from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers raising safety concerns. The Corps found that a nearby breakwater had depths of more than 130 feet. The lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1901 and restored by the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation. Repair costs for the breakwater could be more than $90 million. More Information

Upper Delaware is Dangerous--In June, the Upper Delaware River recorded its 79th death since 1980, when a 37-year-old man went for a swim during a rafting trip near Pond Eddy. According to the National Park Service, since 1980 the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River has had 79 drownings--but not one drowning occurring where someone was wearing their life jacket.
