Burlington Bristol Bridge
Delaware Highway Bridge
Construction of this Delaware River crossing began in April 1930; the bridge opened to traffic May 2, 1931. The bridge is 2,301 feet long, 20 feet wide and carries two lanes of traffic across the Delaware. Pedestrians are not permitted on the bridge.
Ships that are taller than the moveable span can request a bridge opening. Concrete counterweights are lowered to balance the lift span as it is raised. Vehicle traffic is temporarily stopped until the span is returned to its original position.
