Delaware Canal State Park

Pennsylvania State Park

blank dot

Delaware Canal State Park on the Pennsylvania side of the river is the only remaining, continuously intact canal, a reminder of the great towpath canal-building era of the early and mid-19th century. This diverse park contains a historic canal and towpath, many miles of river shoreline and eleven river islands. The park also offers a variety of programs for students, teachers, community groups and the public. The canal stretches along 59 miles of the Delaware River from Easton downstream to Bristol, Pennsylvania. The area around Bristol is near busy highways and industrial areas and includes the former Tide Lock, which allowed boats to enter the Delaware River below the upstream rapids.
