Fishs Eddy Bridge at NY Route 28
Highway Bridge
New York highway 28 crosses the East Branch of the Delaware at this point. The bridge is also known as the Fish Eddy-Sullivan County Line Road Bridge. It was originally part of the New York, Ontario, & Western Railway and was converted for road use following the line’s abandonment in 1957. The original bridge was built in 1901 and rehabilitated in 1994. Another parallel bridge was located slightly downriver of the current bridge but was removed after the railroad abandoned the area. The hamlet of Fishs Eddy was named after a fisherman named Zenas Eddy who caught a large number of fish in the river.
