Hudson
River Town
Hudson is a city and the county seat of Columbia County. It is located on the east side of the Hudson River and 120 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The city was named for the river and its explorer Henry Hudson. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 5,894. The city actively promotes its river heritage and has developed large sections of its waterfront. In 2019, Hudson Cruises launched a ferry to connect with neighboring town Athens across the river. The ferry runs on weekends. Some of the popular attractions in Hudson include:
- Olana State Historic Site, which is a 250-acre estate with a Persian-inspired house and beautiful gardens .
- Warren Street, which is a historic street with many shops, restaurants, and galleries .
- Hudson Opera House, which is an 1855 building that was named Hudson's city hall and is now used as a theater .
- The Hudson River itself, which is one of Hudson's biggest tourist attractions. Hudson Cruises is a local favorite for sailing out on the river .
