This abandoned bridge across the Potomac was the "First Crossing" on the Western Maryland Route west from Hagerstown. After emerging from the Indigo Tunnel and passing through Little Orleans, the railroad crossed the river on a single-track bridge into West Virginia near a town called Doe Gully.
