Western Maryland Rail Trail at Pearre

Recreational Trail

At Pearre, the Western Maryland had a station and siding near the big Indigo Tunnel. The parking area is a popular starting and stopping point on the Western Maryland Rail Trail. To the east, the trail winds winds 20 miles to Hancock. Construction on the latest section of the trail, a 4.5-mile (7.2 km) extension to the west from Pearre Station to Little Orleans that includes a 2-mile bypass of the Indigo Tunnel via the C&O Canal, opened in 2019.
