Paw Paw, WV

West Virginia Town

blank dot

This West Virginia town was once a stopping point for the B&O Railroad and is still a minor industrial center. More than 16,000 troops were quartered here during the Civil War. Canoeing is excellent through the Paw Paw Bends of the Potomac, one of the most beautiful stretches of the Potomac from Washington to Cumberland. Put in at Paw Paw, take out at Little Orleans, for a 20-mile trip. Paw Paw has grocery stores and restaurants open all year. The Bikepath B&B is a bed & breakfast inn that caters to travelers along the C&O Canal across the river. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has a convenient boat ramp near the bridge over the river.
