Thompson Boat Center
River Access Point
The National Park Service boat center is located at the confluence of the Potomac and Rock Creek. The area is popular for rowers, canoeists, bicyclists, joggers, sunbathers, and picnickers. The Center rents bicycles, canoes, and rowing shells. This is a good location to rent a boat for exploration of the Potomac and Theodore Roosevelt Island. Locker and shower facilities are available. The Thompson Boat Center also provides rowing lessons and is home to a large number of school rowing teams. The Boat Center is open 7 a.m. to dusk, March 1 through November 30. The entrance to the center is at the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Ave. N.W., opposite the Watergate Complex and just north of the Kennedy Center. Access is either from Virginia Avenue or Rock Creek Parkway (southbound only).
