The DC Water Headquarters and Pumping Station is located at 125 O Street, SE, on the Anacostia River between the Washington Navy Yard and Nationals Park. The building is named "HQO" because it is located above the O Street Pumping Station. The site includes the now-landmarked 1907 Beaux Arts brick pumping station and is located in the booming Navy Yard area. DC Water delivers water through 1,300 miles of interconnected pipes, four pumping stations, four reservoirs, three water tanks, 43,860 valves, and 9,510 fire hydrants.

The building achieved LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and employs many advanced strategies that surpass LEED Platinum certification. It uses an innovative heating system that harnesses the heat generated by wastewater flowing through the pumping station.
