Development of sea kayaks has spawned the exploration of the Potomac below Washington by small, people-powered boats. The Potomac River Water Trails are a collection of suggested tours of the Potomac, beginning at Jennings Randolph Lake near Westernport, and flowing to the mouth of the Potomac and merge with the Chesapeake Bay near Point Lookout. The trails can be part of a single day trip or a multi-day adventure, stopping at campsites along the way. The trail is broken into four different sections. Each individual segment of the trail has its own map.

A digital version of the map of the lower Potomac River Water Trail is available from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources at this link.
