Virginia Historic Site

The Lyceum, which was restored in 1974, today serves as Alexandria's history museum. In the fall of 1995, a permanent exhibition was installed covering over 400 years of local history. The Lyceum was built in 1839 as a cultural center for the city and is a classic example of Greek Revival architecture. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Lyceum also has a museum shop and offers a variety of special programs.
