Fort Hunt Park
National Park Service Unit

Part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, this park has 156 acres for picnicking, hiking, and ballplaying. It is a popular area for picnics on summer weekends, particularly for large groups. The fort was built from 1897 to 1904, and was named for Civil War General Henry Hunt. Large guns once guarded the river approach to Washington; they were dismantled in 1918.
