Good seafood restaurants can be found in this small community, which was once the terminal of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad. A mail and passenger boat traveled daily between Popes Creek and Colonial Beach, Va., in the early 1900s. Popes Creek is accessible from U.S. 301 four miles north of the Potomac River Bridge. Turn west on Popes Creek Road about three miles to the crab houses on the river.
