Goose Creek River Lock
Historic Site
This special lock allowed canal boats to enter the C&O Canal from Goose Creek on the Virginia side of the river. Goose Creek had its own system of locks and a canal, called the Goose Creek and Little River Navigation, that was financed by a group of Loudoun County investors in the 1830s, soon after the C&O Canal opened. Boats would cross the Potomac near Edwards Ferry and take the canal to D.C. The Goose Creek Navigation was not successful, and the Civil War interfered with the C&O Canal, but the lock survived. You can also visit the remains of the Goose Creek and Little River Navigation canal on the site of the Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park.
