With a length of 18.6 miles, Piscataway Creek is one of the most important streams in the Potomac estuary. The creek is free-flowing for most of its length, but becomes a tidal stream for its final 2.5 miles, ending up at the Potomac River at Fort Washington Park. There is a lighthouse at the entrance to the creek and a large marina at the National Park facility.
