Difficult Run runs 15.9 miles through Fairfax County to Great Falls Park where it enters the Potomac. The stream flows through a narrow valley and includes several small waterfalls. The Difficult Trail near the Potomac is accessible from a parking lot Route 193. The creek got its name from the "Difficult" bends in the Potomac that canal boat operators had to deal with.
