One of the most scenic tributaries in the Potomac, the Cacapon is know for its outstanding fishing, boating, wildine, and scenery. It is designated as an American Heritage River and a West Virginia wild and scenic river. One of the river's tributaries is the famed "Lost River," which flows from the West Virginia Highlands, then descends underground for several miles, to emerge as the Cacapon River. Scenic areas along the river include Caudy's Castle, a legendary site of conflict between settlers and Indians
