Local Park
Land for Riverside Park was donated to the city in 1893. It is situated on the former site of Fort Cumberland, where a log cabin (now restored) was built to serve as the headquarters for then Colonel George Washington during the French and Indian War. The park is at the junction of the North Branch Potomac and Wills Creek and across from the Western Maryland Railroad train station and Canal Place. In the past, the park was a focal point of activities, including concerts, rides by excursion boats on the Potomac, pleasure walks and relaxation.
