Md. 956 Bridge at Rocket Center, WV
North Branch Potomac River Highway Bridge
The bridge is adjacent to Rocket Center, a government installation known as the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, part of the Naval Sea Systems Command. The history of the site goes back to World War II, when it was an ammunitions plant owned by the Army. After World War II, the plant was used to build engines and propulsion devices for the rocket industry. It became part of the Navy operated by the Hercules Powder Companty. In more recent years, the plant produced parts for advanced naval aircraft.
