The Connecticut River near Enfield, CT, is a significant waterway with various natural and recreational features. One of the notable areas is the Scantic River State Park, which sprawls across three separate sections in three separate towns along the Scantic River Watershed. The park offers an extensive trail network, bountiful fishing, and a lush oasis of flora and fauna. It also contains historical relics from Connecticut’s one-time powerhouse gunpowder industry. The Enfield Dam, which was begun in 1827 to avoid the rapids and to divert water into the Windsor Locks Canal, is a wooden crib structure that spans the Connecticut River just south of the Rt. 190 bridge between Enfield and Suffield. This area provides a mix of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
