Connecticut River Island
Kings Island is the largest island in the Connecticut River, located between Enfield and Suffield, Connecticut. The island spans nearly a mile long and covers an area of 104 acres. It has been known by various names, including Colonel John Pynchon’s Island, Copper Island, Devotion Island, General Lyman Island, Great Island, Lyman Island, and Terry’s Island. The island was a springtime fishing spot for Native Americans before the colonial period. Today, it offers a 1.7-mile hiking trail and a campground operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The island’s rich history and natural beauty make it a unique feature on the Connecticut River.
This site is part of the Connecticut River Paddlers Trail, which includes campsites, access points, and portage trails along the river.
