I-291 Bissell Bridge
Connecticut River Bridge
The Interstate 291 Bissell Bridge is a significant infrastructure that spans the Connecticut River, connecting the towns of Windsor and South Windsor in Connecticut. The bridge was built in 1957 as part of a planned Hartford beltway and was fully connected to area freeways when I-291 was completed in 1994. The bridge carries I-291 over the Connecticut River and also includes a pedestrian crossing on the westbound, upstream side. Originally constructed in 1957, the Bissell Bridge charged a toll until 1988 when the bridge was reconstructed. Today, it serves as a vital link for commuters and travelers in the region.
