North Meadows Bird Sanctuary
State Park
The North Meadows Bird Sanctuary, located near the Connecticut River, is a testament to the transformative power of nature. What was once the Hartford Landfill has been repurposed into a sanctuary for many types of endangered birds. The sanctuary is home to 28 bird nest boxes, with plans for more in the future. While it’s not open to the general public, groups can request a visit from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for permission to visit. This sanctuary is a beacon of hope for conservation efforts and serves as a haven for avian life, making it a soon-to-be tourist attraction.
