The James’s State Trail, also known as the Captain John Bissell Trail has an access point near the Bissell Memorial Bridge. This trail spans 4.5 miles, offering a protected path that crosses the Connecticut River separated from the I-291 highway. The trail begins at Windsor Meadows State Park in Windsor and extends to East Hartford, intersecting the Charter Oak Trail. It offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance, as it is named after Captain John Bissell, who started one of the US’s first ferry services in 1641.
