James’s State Trail
State Park
The James’s State Trail, also known as the Captain John Bissell Trail has an access point near the Bissell Memorial Bridge. This trail spans 4.5 miles, offering a protected path that crosses the Connecticut River separated from the I-291 highway. The trail begins at Windsor Meadows State Park in Windsor and extends to East Hartford, intersecting the Charter Oak Trail. It offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance, as it is named after Captain John Bissell, who started one of the US’s first ferry services in 1641.
