New Guidebook to the River--A Field Guide to the Connecticut River: From New Hampshire to Long Island Sound has been published by the Yale University Press. Written by Patrick J. Lynch, the guide is considered the first comprehensive natural history guide to the river, with more than 750 illustrations, maps, and photographs. More information.Battling Hydrilla--The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing to actively manage the invasive plant hydrilla in creeks and ponds along the Connecticut River. The Corps has been applying an EPA-approved herbicide to ponds in East Haddam, Connecticut, to reduce the clogging of creeks with the invasive plant. The project is supported by the Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments. More information.
Connecting Connecticut Communities--The improved access to the Connecticut River shoreline is continuing. In May, the State of Connecticut hosted the grand opening of the Putnam Bridge Trail, which links hiking paths on both sides of the river and the Putnam Bridge near Hartford. The trial provides a safe and convenient connection between the historic river towns of Glastonbury and Wethersfield. More information.
