Prince George's County
One of Maryland's largest counties, Prince George's was named after Prince George of Denmark, husband of Queen Anne. Principal towns include Bowie, College Park, Greenbelt, and Upper Marlboro, the county seat. Prince George's County is bounded by the Patuxent River to the east, Charles County and Mattawoman Creek to the south, the Potomac River and Washington, D.C. to the west, and Montgomery County to the north. The county celebrated the 300th anniversary of its founding in 1996.
