When George Washington built the Patowmack Company's locks around rapids in the river, he constructed a lasting structure that is now featured in the Seneca Regional Park. The park has winding trails and interpretive signs from the parking area all the way to the river. It is also popular with horse riders. The trails connect with the Potomac Heritage Trail on the Virginia side.
