A large, rural county, Hampshire County includes major segments of the South Branch Potomac and the upper Cacapon. The oldest county in West Virginia, Hampshire was formed in 1754. The county seat is Romney, on the South Branch. Towns in Hampshire County include Capon Bridge, Augusta, Points, and Green Spring. The county is bounded by the Potomac River to the north, Morgan County and the Virginia state line to the east, and Hardy County to the south.
