Doncaster State Forest was established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a federal project of the Depression era to improve the local economy through environmental projects. The forest was developed under the "multiple use" concept, in which wildlife, water quality, and wood production were combined with recreation and aesthetics. More than seven decades later, Doncaster is still promoting wise use of its 1447 acres of heavily forested pine, poplar, gum, and oak. Two hiking trails are marked, each about 2 miles long. Other trails use fire roads, but check with a ranger first. A bridle trail is available for horseback riding. Hunting and picnic areas are available. The park is open year-round, sunrise to sunset.
